Cup Final Event raises £1,000 for Japanese Earthquake Appeal

Cannock’s three leading local service groups Rotary, Soroptimists and Lions have held a successful charity fundraising event at the Pitmen’s Cup Final on 12 April.  The three groups had joined with Hednesford Town Football Club to combine their fundraising expertise in aid of the Japanese Earthquake Appeal.

A raffle and bucket collection, together with the proceeds of a previous raffle at the Club, topped off by a personal donation from Football Club Chairman Steve Price raised £1,000.

Commenting on the event, Rotary Club president Peter Barke said: “Steve Price had already supported the event by waiving normal charges and by donating raffle prizes, we’re really grateful to him for the fantastic gesture of rounding up the funds raised to £1,000.”

Trish Mellor and Doug Smith of Soroptimists and Lions respectively added: “The generosity of local businesses (in particular Midland Independent Financial Advisers and AB Windows) has been tremendous.”

Darren Campion wins first Player of the Month Award

The Supporters Association members have nominated Darren Campion as the winner of the inaugaral Player of the Month Award which will be presented prior to the home match on 9th April against Bedford Town FC.

This first presentation of this new award is based on performances over the period from mid February to the end of March and is an accumulation of votes for Man of the Match as cast by members of the HTFCSA.

Kyle Patterson and Nick Wellecomme also figured highly due to their performances in the February/March period but it was Campsta who came with a very strong late run due to some fine recent performances to add to the consistency that he has shown since he joined the club.

The HTFCSA Player of the Month Award will be an important recognition of players performances on an ongoing basis.
