Pitmen Crash Out As Pegasus Earn Shock Win

Pegasus Juniors fully deserved a shock win in the FA Cup as they dumped Hednesford Town out with a fantastic 4-1 win.

The side from Herefordshire played their underdog part with aplomb as they fought off a Pitmen fight back in the second half. Chris Mortlock was the hero as he scored a goal in each half and was the stand out player in a win which saw the minnows triumph.

Pegasus opened the scoring on the half hour mark as Simon Gwynne reached a cross by Lee Ferneyhough  and poked the ball past Gavin Ward to send the away followers into rapture.

Within three minutes the deficit was doubled as Mortlock fired the ball past Ward with a superb finish.

Keys Park was in shock and it took until the sixty-fifth minute for the home side to muster a goal as Tyrone Barnett finished well from the edge of the area. A fight back looked to be on but it was Stuart Turpin in the Pegasus goal who made two outstanding reaction saves; first from Barnett and then from Ludovic Quistin.

With Hednesford chasing the game Pegasus topped off the biggest game in the history of their club with a Mortlock half volley and a Cory Hyde lob to send Dean Edwards’ men crashing out.
