Nisbett Red And Barnett Penalty Miss Pivitol For Pitmen
The Pitmen will rue the penalty miss of Tyrone Barnett in the second half as, with a man advantage, Sutton Coldfield rallied to score two goals in the final eight minutes to dump Hednesford out of the Birmingham Senior Cup.
The defeat sees Hednesford fail at the first hurdle of a cup competition for the second time this season. The home side started well and opened the scoring on nine minutes when Justin Nisbett jinked past James Quiggin and finished well.
Bernard McNally fielded a full strength line up, the home side shaded the first period with Nisbett, and Durrell involved in the better footballing moves of the half.
It was Sutton who started the second half the stronger and equalized when Matthew Dodd crossed for Jamille Matt to sweep the ball past Gavin Ward.
Nisbett threatened all game but saw red on sixty-five minutes when James Quiggin pulled him back in the area to concede a penalty. Inexplicably the striker then swung violently at the Sutton player and was duly given his marching orders.
Barnett stepped up but blazed the spot kick against the crossbar and away to safety. Sutton made their one man advantage count as Sam Wilson slotted in after heroics by Ward and then Matt dispatched a late penalty to pile on the misery for The Pitmen.
