The Pitmen lost centre back Tom Marshall during the pre match warm up after he twisted his ankle when Elliott Durrell tackled him. It meant a quick reshuffle as Scott Stamps had to race back to the dressing room to change into the number six shirt. With David Brown having played for Glapwell in an earlier round and new signing Trevor Benjamin not available Dean Edwards was left with three substitutes for the game.

An early chance fell to the Pitmen after a free kick had been awarded after Tyrone Barnett had been fouled winning a header. Chad Sheppard floated the free kick into Barnett who headed the ball down to an unmarked Ross Dyer who was closed down before he could get a shot away.

Ross Draper broke through the middle to nip the ball past Steve Williams with a deft header but the ball ran away from him down the slight hill to Craig Dootson

Hyde had three successive corners which were conceded by Decio Gomes and Scott Stamps. Barnett blocked the 2nd to concede another corner which saw Stamps finally head the ball clear. Nathan Wharton tried his luck with a 30 yard shot which sailed over Brock’s crossbar.

The home side had a chance to open the scoring early in the game when a long clearance by Dootson was flicked on by Wayne Maden for Chris Simm. The centre forward took the ball to the edge of the box from where he hit a firm low shot across the face of the goal but Stuart Brock did well as he dived to his left to tip the ball around the post for a corner.

Sam Hall was finding space on the right and made a run to the bye-line. He placed the ball into the danger area where Tyrone Barnett hit a first time volley which was blocked on the line, the ball came back to the Pitmen player so he attempted to place a header inside the right hand post but again he was foiled on the line. The danger was still not over for the Hyde defence as the loose ball was hit again on target this time by Ross Draper but Dootson was able to finally clear the ball away by pushing the ball away towards the wing.

A rare mistake by Decio Gomes put Brock under pressure, a poor pass was intercepted by Simm who raced to the edge of the box, with only the Pitmen keeper to beat he took to much time to hit the ball and by the time he had made his mind up Brock had closed the angle and caught Simms effort.

Ross Dyer opened the scoring in the 25th minute, The move began when Draper won the ball on the half way line, he played a square ball for Elliott Durrell who then played a forward ball down the right for Sam Hall to make another run. On this occasion he hit an early ball into the box which was just out of Barnetts reach but not for Ross Dyer who hit the ball home as he came in at the back post.

In the 32nd minute Adam Burley hit a cross in from the left which was met by Elliott Durrell who header was saved by Dootson diving to his left.

The Conference North side hit back in the 36th minute, left back Adam Oakes hit a cross into the box from the left. Despite a lack of pace on the ball it bobbled past the defenders and landed at the feet of Chris Simm. Having missed an earlier chance he did not waste this opportunity hitting the ball home from close range.

The Pitmen fans were claiming a penalty after Dyer was brought down in the penalty area after a quick break down the middle saw the Pitmens leading goal scorer in the box with only Dootson standing in his way. The Referee did not see the challenge as a foul and waived the play on.

In the opening minute of the second half Draper found Barnett on the left, as he pulled the ball back into the box the ball was deflected away for a corner. Sam Halls corner to the back post was met by danny Harvey who thundered a header just wide of the right hand post.

Hyde responded with a ball chipped in from the left for Simm who again failed to beat Brock in a one on one situation as he placed his shot straight at the keeper. Simm was again in action when he tried a shot from the right which went wide of the left hand post.

In the 55th minute the Pitmen broke forward after Sheppard had won the ball in midfield, he played the ball left for Dyer who took the ball on then cut inside to hit a shot which Dootson dived to tip round the post for a corner.

The Pitmen were now well on top and after a long spell of pressure three successive corners were followed by Elliott Durrell slicing the ball onto the underside of the crossbar from only a couple of yards out.

Mark Briggs who had replaced Durrell in the 63rd minute nearly scored with his first touch as he curled a 20 yard shot onto the right hand post. Hyde’s Nicky Lee broke free with ten minutes to go but Brock stood firm and saved as the Hyde winger hit his shot straight at the keeper then in the 85th minute Gomes made a last ditch tackle to deny Phil Marsh an open goal after Scott Stamps had mistimed a tackle which allowed the Hyde sub to break clear.

At the final whistle both teams were pleased to be in the draw for the next round but the Pitmen could have done without another midweek fixture with a heavy Christmas and New Year programme on the horizon.
