Local rivals Hednesford Town and Cannock Town took on each other in the quarter final of the Staffs Cup in front of a large crowd at Hednesford Park. The game was played on a difficult pitch and was a typical local derby with two committed teams competing against each other. Town took an early lead when a good move was finished off by man of the match Sam Pugh, the rest of the first half was end to end and both teams going close.

 

In the second half the game continued the same pattern with both teams having a go. Hednesford extended their lead when a long ball was flicked onto Ben Green who found the roof of the net from 20 yards to make the score 2-0.  The game became open then with end to end chances but Town held on to book their place in the semi final and keep their unbeaten run going of not losing a game all season so far. 

 

Hednesford returned to league action after the long layoff due to the weather and got straight back into gear with a comprehensive victory against a spirited FC Bloxwich Blues. 

 

Hednesford were dominant throughout and goalscorers on the day were lead by Man of the Match Jack Partridge(2), Connor Shingler(2), Ben Green(2), and one each for Jack Reid, Sam Harvey, Joe Murphy, Ben Martin, Charlie Ware and Sam Pugh.

 

 

Hednesford entertained Silverdale United which turned out to be a well fought battle between two very good and strong teams.  In the first half Silverdale took an early lead and for most of the half were the better team with goalkeeper Kieran Evans keeping Hednesford in the game.

 

In the second half Hednesford came back into the game and took the game to Silverdale and scored a good goal from Charlie Ware.  The game then became end to end with Silverdale regaining the lead with a good strike from outside the box.  But Town came back into it and scored an equaliser from Ben Martin before having chances to win the game in the final few minutes.

 

 

Hednesford entertained Holly Lane from Birmingham in the South Staffs Cup Round Three and found this to be a very hard game played in difficult weather conditions.  In the first half Hednesford took the game to the opposition and created many chances but only scoring once through Charlie Ware.

 

The second half became end to end with both teams attacking whenever they could.  Hednesford managed to increase the lead after a well worked move was finished off by Sam Pugh.  Holly Lane came back strongly and pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, which then created a frantic last ten minutes to hang on and goalkeeper Kieran Evans earning his Man of the Match display to send Hednesford through to Round four of the Cup.

 

 

Hednesford entertained Silverdale Scorpions in a league game and ran out worthy winners.  Town took the game to the opposition in the first half and by half time were 5-1 up with goals from Charlie Ware(1), Sam Pugh(1) and own goal and two goals from man of the match Ben Martin, who scored the goal of the game. Silverdale also scored a goal on the break.

 

In the second half Hednesford created plenty of chances but only scored two more with Pugh getting his second and Jack Partridge hitting the target while Silverdale grabbed another consolation, but it was Hednesford who came away with another valuable three points.

 

Hednesford took on Handsworth in the Carol Cup Quarter Final and had their hardest game of the season so far against a very good Handsworth side.  Handsworth took the lead in the first half but Hednesford equalised within five minutes from Jack Reid.  In the second half and again both teams were playing at a high tempo creating a good game to watch.  Handsworth took the lead mid-way through the half with a well taken finish. Hednesford again responded and equalised thanks to a good finish from Ben Green.  The game moved into extra time with both teams looking for the winner but neither team could find the net again.  The game went to penalties and goalkeeper and Man of the Match Kieran Evans came into his own by saving two Handsworth penalties and scoring one himself, with Hednesford going through 4-2 on penalties to the semi final.

 

 

Hednesford entertained Ashmore Park Rangers in the South Staffs Cup Second Round in a game played in difficult weather conditions.  In the first half against the wind Hednesford found it hard going but still managed to keep a clean sheet and score two goals, one each from joint men of the match Charlie Ware and Jack Reid.  In the second half Hednesford managed to get on top and were the better team and took the game to Ashmore and managed to score four more goals, with Charlie Ware completing his hat trick and a goal each for Ben Martin and Ben Green.

 

Hednesford played their first home league game of the season as they took on a spirited and organised side in Handsworth FC.  Town started well and took an early lead through Charlie Ware and doubled their lead after good work by Ben Green, with Ware heading home his second goal.  On 15 minutes the goal of the game came when Ware rattled one home from 25 yards to complete his hat trick.

In the second half the game was a lot more even with both teams creating chances and Handsworth pulled back a goal to make the score 3-1.  Hednesford then came back strongly and scored two more well taken goals from Man of the Match Jack Partridge to end up worthy winners on the day 5-1.

 

Hednesford Town travelled to Bloxwich for the second week running and in their first league game of the season came away with a very convincing victory which has seen them have a great start to the campaign.  In a game of which they totally dominated from start to finish, Town also played good football throughout.  The goalscorers for the day were Ben Green (6), Charlie Ware (5), Jack Partridge (4), Sam Pugh (3) and one each from Connor Shingler and Matt Williamson.  The Man of the Match award went to the whole team for a complete team performance.

 

Hednesford travelled to Bilston to take on Bilbrook Juniors East in the Staffs Cup Round One and came away convincing winners as they continued their good early season form.  Hednesford dominated the game from start to finish and the goals came from Man of the Match Charlie Ware (5), Sam Pugh (3), Ben Green (2), and a goal each for Jack Reid, Connor Shingler and Sam Harvey, giving us a comfortable victory and a place in the next round.

 

Hednesford travelled to Walsall to take on Silverdale Scorpions in the Carol Cup Round Two.  The first half was very even and a good battle took place, until Hednesford were awarded a penalty after 25 minutes which Charlie Ware converted. Town’s confidence grew and they went on to score two more quick goals from Sam Pugh.  In the second half Hednesford got on top and finally started to impose themselves more on to the game and scored more goals from Ware, completing his hat trick.  Jack Reid (2), Jack Partridge (1) and Man of the Match Sam Pugh completing his hat trick, to put Hednesford through to the next round.

 

Hednesford entertained a well organised and spirited Bloxwich United side and after a good battle came out with the victory.  Hednesford started well and scored very early through Jack Partridge.  The game became a good battle with two committed sides and just before half time Hednesford increased their lead with a great strike from Adam Weldon.

 

In the second half Hednesford took the game to Bloxwich and got on top of the game and scored further goals from Charlie Ware, Sam Pugh and Man of the Match Jack Reid.  Bloxwich pulled a deserved consolation goal back, but in the end Hednesford ran our worthy winners to put them top of Walsall League Division One.

Hednesford Town travelled to lower league opposition Beechdale Juniors in the Carol Cup Round 1 and came away as convincing winners.  Hednesford dominated the game throughout, playing good football along the way.  The goalscorers on the day were Charlie Ware (5), Ben Green (3), Adam Weldon (3), Jack Partridge (2), Sam Pugh (2), Joe Murphy (2) and a goal each for Jack Reid and Joe Collis.  This result gets the season up and running with a good victory on the first game of the season.  All credit to the Beechdale team who kept on trying to the end and never let their heads go down.

 

Hednesford Town U14's entered the Phoenix United football tournament and beat every team they played against only to lose in the final to a team they beat in the group stages. A big well done to all the lads for only losing one game and winning all the rest convincingly.
