The long awaited match against the MFYL Premier Division's best team began well for the young Pitmen as, straight from the kick off, a mistake by the Solihull goalkeeper in kicking clear put the ball to Rhys Swetnam to put an unchallenged cross across the face of the Solihull goal.
Another good early move involving Swetnam put Chris Ward in the clear but he was unable to get a shot away.

On 8 minutes the home side broke away well resulting in a chance but the rather weak volley was comfortably saved by Dale Faultless.

Hednesford's early pressure was rewarded in the 10th minute when the excellent OLIVER CASEY was able to improvise a superb overhead kick to open the scoring.

The setback did not seem to deter the home side and they were soon back on the offensive with a long forward ball into the box which looked to be well headed clear but the young Pitmen were shocked when the referee awarded a penalty, when a free kick for the forward ‘backing in' looked more likely. Tom Howard was booked for dissent before the penalty kick was well converted.

Dale Faultless was in action again soon after with a fine reaction save, as Hednesford were looking very vulnerable down the left hand side.

In the 27th minute a corner kick by Solihull saw centre back Jack Hulin get a heavy knock in the face and as the ball was cleared it was expected that the referee would stop play for him to get attention. However, this did not occur and the ball was quickly delivered across the face of the goal for the home side to tap in past the static defence, including the prostrate Jack Hulin.

Hednesford, still reeling from the poor decisions, attempted to get back into the game with a well struck effort from 25 yards by Ryan Lester.

By now the midfield three for Solihull, Doyle, Price and Braide, were running the show and were creating goalscoring chances with ease.

Two goals in a minute for the home side as half time approached saw the young Pitmen leave the field at the interval in very dispirited mood.

The second half began with Mark Bandurak coming on for the injured Jack Hulin to go for medical attention and Jordan Nadat coming on for Chris Ward in order to strengthen the left side of the team.

The visitors played much better in the second half but it was obvious that the impressive Solihull Moors side had settled for the 4-1 scoreline and were content to hold possession and ‘kill the game'.

The fitness and team play of this excellent academy side were more than enough to cope with the marginally superior individual skills of the best Hednesford Town players.

It is possible that we could meet Solihull twice more in the coming weeks, as they are also still in the League Cup competition and the return match at Keys Park is scheduled for Monday 6th April.

The young Pitmen will need to be at full strength in order to match the Moors in the encounters to come.
